Kicking off the Fall Reads | Book Explorer Vol. 12

I’m so so sorry to tell you all, I’m one of those obnoxious fall people. September 1st hits, and it’s jeans and sweaters. I’ll wait a couple of weeks before cracking out the pumpkins and all, but just trust that I’m already planning my Thanksgiving menu.

I wanted to get through my last two summer beach reads before the end of August, but between traveling, work, life, and occasionally trying to get some sleep, reading ended up taking a backseat. I don’t mind it really, it was a busy month I’m pretty happy I still managed to power through two books this month. Even more, that bumped me up to hit my goal of reading 12 books for the year! It’s definitely an accomplishment, the most books I’ve read in a long long time.

Last month I decided to push for 15, let’s see if I get there!

You can check out all the books I read this year on Storygraph, add me as a friend there!

What I Read in August

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

1.5/5 Stars

I know the tiktok girlies love it, but I just cannot. It was a painful setup for a sequel, and truly there was no plot until the last few chapters. The only major positive is the diversity in gender, race, and sexuality is really great. But this book is to the dragon rider/fantasy genre, what 50 Shades was to Twilight.

The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson

4/5 Stars

I got into the Cosmere books when C started reading them this summer and I’m truly devouring them. This is book two of the series and I’m totally hooked. Not quite as good as the first, but the second never is! This trilogy is almost wrapped, I cannot wait to jump into book three!
